Where can I get mental health care as a veteran?

If you are a veteran in the Charlotte area, one options is to get care with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The first step is to contact the Enrollment and Eligibility Office nearest you. They will take in-person walk-ins too and orient veterans to care options. There is a national VA helpline at 877-222-8387, but you should try calling to local facility first.

VetCenters are another great resource, because they share some resources with VA but are distinct organizationally (e.g. they don’t require VA health enrollment and available to active duty) and operate with more of a community focus. One of their specialties is helping veterans re-enter into life with civilians. They also offer psychotherapy at select locations.

Insight Carolinas is a part of VA’s Community Care Network (CCN). VA built a community care network to assist under certain eligibility conditions (e.g. if wait times are too long, or a certain specialty is not available at VA). Whether you come to see us at Insight Carolinas or not, we want to make sure that veterans are aware of all available resources from a grateful nation.

If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, contact the Veterans Crisis Line to receive free, confidential support and crisis intervention available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Dial 988 then Press 1, chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat, or text 838255. You do not have to be enrolled in VA health care to call.

Emergency room visits for suicide prevention are covered for veterans under the COMPACT act. Please contact VA for additional information.
